Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) of the Government of Canada has funded a series of community-based projects to help small and rural charities meet their reporting obligations. Some projects will offer training sessions in 2009 – 2010 and many have useful websites.

National and Central Canada Projects

Canadian Association of the Deaf (CAD)

  • Project Name -- Compliance in the Disability Charity Sector
  • Purpose -- Educate charities serving disabled persons about CRA compliance by tailoring to their needs, for example, with sign language. The goal is to provide charities with tools and presentations to help them with tax problems. Their presentations are free of charge and will cover governance issues, goods and services taxation, keeping books and records, and fundraising.

Canadian Council for International Co-operation

  • Project Name -- Training and Education Program for Canadian International Development Charities with Foreign Activities
  • Purpose -- Educate Canadian charities with an international focus to increase CRA compliance regarding foreign activities by enhancing and increasing compliance with income tax requirements.

Capacity Builders Charity Law Information Program

  • Project Name -- Capacity Builders Charity Law Information Program
  • Purpose -- Providing workshops and webinars educating charities regarding CRA compliance. Will offer plain-language resources, tools and practical training legal obligations. Special emphasis will be placed on supporting small and rural charities. Sign up for their communiqués!
